Aja

Aja is a fabulous model. She has that special ability to create a mood. Her long black hair was partially died a bright pink-orange, and piled high on her head. Her outfit looked like underwear from some by-gone time, with white shift and bloomers, pink and white striped stockings and, dainty lace-up boots with 2-inch heels. She has a calm and regal beauty which combined with her attire to create a rare and unique atmosphere.    Iris Sabre

Ana

Ana sat for us in the Firehouse for 2 sessions. She was a nice model and held her pose very well. The painting was done with acrylic on a 12" x 12" Masonite.

Portrait Study, Looner

I did two portrait studies with Looner from different angles. This is one of them. He had this dramatic hair style which was fun to draw. The portrait was done with charcoal on 70lb drawing paper.

Portrait Study

Portrait Study-Larry
acrylic on canvas  16 by 20
Larry did a sitting pose for us. He was reading a book. It was challenging for me since his head moved a little bid from time to time after each rest break. I tried to block in loosely all features and color and tied everything together in the last sitting session. It was a difficult pose for Larry, but it was fun to paint. This is an acrylic on 16" X 20" canvas.

Colorful Portrait

It's  amazing what a rainbow wig can do for a model.
Here is a sample oil painting using one.
It kind of reminds me of the poster for the musical HAIR

Adrian

Today I had a yen to draw, not paint. So I was able to do three portraits of Adrian.
The first one, in charcoal, is the best. The second one, in bright colors, gave me a chance to go crazy with oil pastels. It was fun, but the results are only so-so. The third, in pastels, sanguine conte, and pencil, came out okay.
(I don't understand how this blogging program orders the pictures! The first one I posted, the charcoal drawing, came out last when published.)

Becca

Today was my turn to set the pose. I improvised a settee and had Becca take a semi-reclining pose--a nice change from all the seated/chair poses we've had.

This painting came out a little cartoony. Also, the composition's a bit odd, in that the model's looking left, but there's a huge empty expanse at the right. I'm not sure whether to add something else to break up the whiteness, or just leave it alone, since it's a break from my usual tendency to fill every space.

Bonnie

These are two portraits of Bonnie that I did at the Firehouse. They're both 18" x 24" and done in acrylics. I like to work fast and finished each one later.
Best,
Diana Blackwell
