Ricardo posed for us in the evening session at the Firehouse. The canvas and the palette in the pose were actually blank canvas panels. I blocked in a portrait and made up the palette to make the painting looked more interesting. The colors on the palette in the picture were actually a copy of the colors I used in my palette. This is an acrylic on a 18" by 24" canvas.

Waddi

Waddi was out stolling one evening when he saw us setting up our easels to paint.  Did we need a model? he asked.  As it happened, the model we were expeccting was a no-show and Waddi saved the day.

The Whole Room

For my last regular session with this group, I chose a 16 x 20" canvas and oils. I distorted our model to make him fit, then found the figures of Georgianna and Meredith interesting as well. Thanks to Karen, I have ventured into the realm of multi-figure compositions.

Larry Models at the Firehouse

I used a large brush to do most of this painting and finished with smaller brushes working mostly with the negative spaces. I also used an underpainting. It is a 20 by 20 acrylic. Karen

Bob at the Firehouse

I had a hard time with Bob. The first one I did I painted out later. This time the light was drastically different because the room had been painted a too dark color and the lights have not been installed. However the moody feel allowed me a different approach and it is a little better than the last one. It is a 24 by 24 acrylic. Karen

David on the Red Sofa

David was quite cooperative considering that the pose made his hand go to sleep. I liked his expression and the hat he brought along. But I was entranced by the pelt on which he was sitting, which I left for last. This pelt, together with the sofa, makes for an interesting pattern on the rectangular space of the canvas. I think this painting ended up attracting me because of the primary color harmony. My palette was pretty simple too: titanium white, alizarin crimson, lemon and cadmium yellow, and ultramarine blue. David at the Firehouse

The changes at the Firehouse are good for painting. The sense of space is more interesting and the room has more light. We were all excited about having the model on the couch. I need a better camera now. I am not doing that well capturing paintings that have more texture. It is an 18 by 24 acrylic. Karen
